Twelve years ago, a group of duck hunters encountered a problem familiar to millions of Americans: there simply was not enough room in their SUV.   They were already struggling to cram four guys and two dogs into their vehicle -- where were they going to fit their decoys, game and gear?  Sizing up their SUV from every angle, the duck hunters focused their attention on its hitch receiver.  They envisioned an enclosed cargo carrier that could slide easily into the hitch, providing the extra storage room they needed.

From this idea came an initial prototype.  More than a decade of innovations later, StowAway stands as the undisputed market leader of hitch mounted cargo carriers and racks.

Today, American made StowAway Cargo Carriers are used by everyone from soccer moms to K9 cops, from RV owners to dog show enthusiasts.  As the number of applications of StowAway Carriers has multiplied, so too has the StowAway product line: 16 carriers, five different frames, two box sizes, and a full line of accessories.   No other company can match the depth and breadth of the StowAway product line.

StowAway has established its position in the cargo carrier market primarily through a firm commitment to product development.  Employing a skilled team of design engineers and investing in extensive field testing, StowAway carriers and frames exist in a state of perpetual refinement.  From the StowAway1 in 1998, to the introduction of the patented Swingaway frame in 1999, to the unveiling of the MAX box in 2005, StowAway's design team has repeatedly demonstrated itself to be the industry’s vanguard.
